Last week we had two sessions led by Gabe Sanchez, a staff member of the Adventures in Missions Guatemala base. In one of his sessions, he spoke a prophetic word to us as a squad.

The question he asked us was, “Will you just die already?” At first I was confused, but after he explained it, it really made an impact on me.

Even when we follow after Jesus, it can be so easy to continue to hold on to our old flesh, our old human nature. But in reality, we are created anew in Christ, and we are called to die to ourselves daily.

Galatians 2:20 says, “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

When we give our lives to Christ, we are choosing to surrender our whole being. It is so easy to hold on to our old sinful natures, but we need to realize that God calls us to surrender those to him, too.

Galatians 5:24-25 says, “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.”

We get to trade our slavery to sin so we can be led by the Spirit. We only have the freedom to do that through Jesus Christ. What a gracious God we follow!

Ephesians 4:21-24 says, “Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God – truly righteous and holy.”

Wow, what a concept!

Now, I’ll ask you the same question. Will you just die already? Are you willing to surrender your old, sinful nature and desires to the Lord, and take up your new nature? What is holding you back from going all in? Jesus is worth everything you’re afraid of losing – that’s a lesson I’m constantly learning and reminding myself of!

Fundraising update! I need $1,210 to meet my $12,000 deadline on November 15th – that’s today! I would appreciate any prayer! Exciting things are happening here in Georgia, and if you’ve read my last blog post, you’ll know that our time in growth and discipleship in the states is almost over! But it doesn’t stop there – we will be launching overseas to Central and/or South America in January!

and here’s a lovely picture, because Georgia fall is beautiful! and autumn is a cool reminder of dying to ourselves being a necessary part of life!
