Hello all! (last updated 10/16/2019)

I’m Shanan! Welcome to my blog!

Hi! This is me at one of my favorite places: the beach!

A little about me:

  • I’m an introvert all the way (INFP for the win). If you’re into the Enneagram, I’m a type 5 for the most part. I’m actually super fascinated by personality tests, particularly the Myers-Briggs, so feel free to comment yours below! And don’t be surprised if in getting to know you, I ask your type 😉

  • I love to travel, read, and do creative things. Brush lettering/modern calligraphy is a side-hobby of mine. Recently I’ve been cooking a lot. But you know what I love most of all? My comfort zone. Not really, but this gap year is going to stretch me in so many ways. I am thrilled for all that the future holds, and I’m doing my best to not get caught up in the uncertainties of all the little stuff (packing, anyone?). It’s okay, God’s got this!

  • One of my favorite Bible verses is 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.” I’m trusting that God is going to use these nine months in incredible ways!

  • I am 18 years old (I’ll be 19 at the start of the race).

  • I was homeschooled until my junior year in high school, when I started dual-enrolling full-time at my local community college. I’ve been doing that ever since, and I will be graduating in December 2019 from high school and college with my associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems!

  • I come from a large family (I’m the oldest of six!)

  • I’ve lived in three different states.

  • Short hair is my thing! Not gonna lie, but I’ve definitely wondered if haircuts are going to happen overseas… haha. It’s the little things, am I right?

It’s hard to feel the urgency of sharing the gospel when I’m scared of talking to someone new or when I’m fearing rejection from someone I know. Can anyone relate? I feel like this is a common struggle, but it’s easy to feel isolated in the things we wrestle with. I’m praying that my time in this program will open my eyes and heart in ways I can’t imagine. I want to step into all that God has for me. He is the most important part of my life and I want to treat Him that way.

TL;DR

If you made it this far, I applaud you! To make a long story short: I’m just your regular ol’ gal with regular ol’ highs and lows. I hope to use this blog as a way to chronicle my trek and as an online journal of sorts. It’ll be all over the place! I’m really not that scary, so feel free to drop any questions or comments below!

Feel free to check out this post for the “why” behind my choice to participate in World Race Gap Year! And if you’re confused about what the World Race Gap Year actually is, I explain it all there!

I invite you to join me on my journey. I appreciate any and all prayers and donations!

May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all.

  1. Hi Shanan!
I’m so happy to read your updates and already see you are growing in many ways on this big adventure. It’s exciting to watch you step out in faith knowing God’s working perfection in each of us and YOU, day by day, minute by minute, in big and small ways. I’m cheering for you Shanan!
    Much love,
